Cirque Du Soliel: Amaluna

Date(s): Sep. 06 - Oct. 21, 2012

Location: Under the Grand Chapiteau at The Port Lands Toronto, ON

Amaluna has begun its Canadian tour inviting audiences to a mysterious island governed by Goddesses and guided by the cycles of the moon. The story revolves around the queen, Prospera and her daughter whose coming-of-age ceremony honoring femininity, renewal, rebirth and balance brings about a passionate love story. After Prospera causes a storm a group of young men arrive at the island which sparks an emotional affair between Prospera’s daughter and a brave young suitor. As most romantic stories go their love will be put to the test. The couple faces trials and obstacles before they can achieve mutual trust, faith and harmony.

This is Cirque du Soliel’s first show whose cast and band are primarily if not completely made up of women. The name of the show fuses the word “ama” which means mother in many languages and the word “luna” which means moon. Amaluna is the name of the mysterious island where the story takes place and is a symbol of the femininity evoked by the mother-daughter relationship as well as the idea of goddess or protector of the planet. From the aerial aerobatics, hand-balancing in a waterbowl, tight wire and so much more these acts bring together the story of Miranda and her love-to-be Prince Romeo. See it during their stop in Toronto!
